What Are Morning Pages? How Does It Help You?

Morning Pages is a method of writing introduced by author Julia Cameron in her book The Artist’s Way.

The method requires you to write three pages every morning. The answer to what to write about is to write down your stream of consciousness. You are not required to come up with a story to write about. All you have to do is to transfer your thoughts into the pages.

Morning pages are not shared with anyone. And doesn’t have to be perfect. All that matters is to fill up the pages with the thoughts running through your mind. And do it without distraction. Stay focused and let your thoughts run wild. Don’t censor your thoughts, write them down.

How Does It Help You

Within days of you starting your morning pages. You will realize it is an impactful form of meditation.

These days we seldom observe our thoughts. We are always swirling in the dopamine loop. Our attention span is getting lesser and lesser. We are no longer mindful of our thoughts and activities.

Morning Pages will help you spend mindful time with yourself. To write three pages will take you around 25–30 minutes time. When was the last time you spend 30 minutes with yourself observing your thoughts free of distraction?

As the days pass, it will help you reflect on your thoughts. And better understand what you truly want in life. When the same thoughts start to appear repeatedly in your writings. You will understand to pay attention to it.

Helps you start your day feeling refreshed and with a sense of clarity. Your morning pages writing sessions will become your decision-making ground. You will argue and discuss with your own mind. And will come up with conclusions.

These days I look forward to my morning pages session. It helps me pour down all my emotions and thoughts. And helps me start my day with resolve and calmness.
